Styles

Overview

A style is a set of values that are assigned to a set of properties. These properties are properties of elements in your album. Styles can be saved so that you can apply a favorite style to your photo albums without having to setup the style every time you create a new album. Styles are grouped according to the types of properties they affect. The types are as follows: Anchor, Anchor Head, Frame, Lighting, Shading, Surface, and Text.

The frame type contains properties governing how the frames and frame surfaces of photos, shapes and Annotations are drawn. The lighting type deals with what lighting filters are applied to photos. Note: the lighting style is the only style type that is not included in a Theme. The shading type contains properties related to how shadows are cast on pages, by photos, annotations, anchors, and shapes. The text type contains text and font formatting properties which govern how the text for annotations is drawn. The surface type contains properties related to how areas are displayed for the inner surfaces of shapes and annotations. This type also governs how the surfaces are drawn for shape frames, photo frames, annotation frames, pages and anchors. The surface style contains two main properties: solid colour, and a link to some texture. Each property can have a varying transparency to allow blending of the two. Surface styles also contain lighting properties similar to the lighting style used for photos. The anchor, and anchor head types contains properties related to how anchors and anchor heads are created and displayed.

Usage

To create a new style simply right click anywhere in the styles side view and select “New”. This will bring up a New Style Dialog from which you can select the name, type, and sharing options for the new theme. To find out more about these options please refer to New Style. To copy an existing styles simply right click the style you want to copy and select “Duplicate”.

A new style can also be created directly from a properties dialog by clicking the add button near the top of the properties dialog, in the Linked Style section.

To select multiple styles simply hold down the CTRL key and left click the styles you want to select. This is useful when you want to re-organize your styles list, or delete multiple styles.

Styles are typically dragged and dropped onto the items you want to apply the style to. However styles can also be selected through various property dialogs. For example the Theme property dialog consists of a preview of the theme, and a list of styles associated with the theme. The list of styles is a list of drop down menus from which you can pick a style for a particular property of the theme. Each style that is associated with a property use icons to describe the type of style present, its storage state, and whether it is being used on the currently displayed page (override). For a description of these icons please refer to Icons.

When viewing lists of styles in property dialogs, a default “None” style is available to be selected. When the none style is selected for a given style use for a styleable object, the relevant parameters are reset to their default values. This is useful for removing frames from photos. For example, if you want to revert all the properties of an element on a page, or a page, to their defaults, drop the None Theme onto it.
