Icons

In Photokeeper, icons and their varying states provide a quick way for you to tell when some property has changed. There are four types of icons: Type, Storage, Used and Override icons. For any of these icons, you can find out what kind of entity it represents by simply hovering over the icon, and holding the mouse still for a short time. A Callout will appear describing what type of icon it is, and what the icon is representing.

Type

The Type icons describe the type of page element or property that is being represented or displayed. Here is a list of elements and properties that these icons describe:

Storage

Drawn to the immediate right of the Style and theme type icons is a storage icon. This icon is rectangular, and can be coloured in one of three ways: all blue, all red, and half red half blue. The all blue state means the style or theme is stored in the system, and is visible even if no albums are open for editing in Photokeeper. The all red state means the style or theme is stored in the current album only, and is only visible when the associated album is open. The red/blue state means the style or theme is stored in both the system and in the current album.

Storage rules do not apply uniformly to all elements in an album.  Soundtracks, Textures, Photos, and Slide Effects are only ever stored on the system. Playlists, Playlist Soundtracks, are stored on the album only. Styles, Themes, and Textures, can be stored on both the system or album.

The Used icon is a small checkmark that appears beside the type icon, above the modified icon. This icon is displayed when the style is used by the theme which was most recently applied to the current page.

Override

The final type of icon used by Photokeeper is the override icon. This icon is displayed in property dialogs of styles or Styleable Objects. A styleable object is an object that uses a particular style. For example a photo may use a particular frame style, thus a photo is a styleable object. The override icon has two states: blue disc, and blue disc with a red circle around it. For styles a blue disc means you haven’t changed the corresponding property for this style. A blue disc with a red circle around it means the corresponding property has changed.

This is a little different for styleable objects. For styleable objects, a blue disc means the corresponding property for the style that the object is using, has the same value as the style’s original value. A blue disc with a red circle around it means the corresponding property for the style that the object is using has a special or local value which may be different from the style’s original value. For example, you may have two photos which use a particular frame style where frames are red. If you wanted to change the frame to blue on only one of the photos you have two options. You could change the frame style property locally for one photo, or create a new blue frame style and link it to the photo. Changing the property locally would mean that the frame would be blue for this particular photo, but all other photos that used the same style would have red frames. To revert a local property setting to its original style settings simply click the red circled blue disc. The disc will change to an un-circled blue disc representing an original style value.
